Formed in 2016, U TURN PICTURES started as an independent Production House to create films, documentaries, photobooks and other allied arts with a view to engage with a globally discerning audience.

The Company's goal is to produce independent films and collaborate with
like-minded artists and create a body of work encompassing various fields of audio visual art forms.

Helmed by Yudhajit Basu & Prithvijoy Ganguly, U TURN PICTURES is currently developing two feature length projects one of which had been selected in NFDC Co Production Market in 2020.

Prithvijoy Ganguly

Filmmaker

Prithvijoy's tryst with cinema came while making a short film in Nagpur, using a cyber shot camera, where he was pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. His vocation took him to various remote and industrial belts of Odisha which gave him an opportunity to understand and interact with the marginalised section of our society.

He subsequently collaborated on two short films, Khoji and Quiro, with Yudhajit Basu which were shot in the eastern Himalayan belt of India. These films were globally screened at various festivals and is currently streaming in OTTs like MUBI & Kinoscope.

While Prithvijoy continues to work in a corporate profile, travelling to the collieries and industrial belts of India, he attempts to reflect on these experiences using mix media format that blur the line between fiction and non-fiction.

Currently Prithvijoy is developing two feature projects with Yudhajit Basu one of which had been selected in NFDC Co Production market in 2020.

Yudhajit Basu

Filmmaker

Born and brought up in Kolkata, Yudhajit was always interested in the art of cinema. After doing one year of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, he dropped out of college and joined St. Xaviers and did his BSC(Hons) in Mass Communication and Videography. While in college he starting editing a magazine of poetry called 'Shabd' (Sound).

After graduation he made two films Khoji and Quiro with Prithvijoy Ganguly. While these films were globally screened at various festivals he joined Film and Television Institute of India in Direction Department in 2017. In 2020 his  FTII documentary film 'Kalsubai'  won the Grand Prize at Oberhausen ISFF and went to over twenty national and international film festivals including IDFA, Sheffield Docs, Visions Du Rèel among others and was nominated for Oscars at IDA Documentary shorts at LA. In 2023, his FTII diploma project, "Nehemich" was officially selected under La Conef section at Festival De Cannes. He had been invited to participate in Opening Scenes Lab at 52nd edition of Visions du Réel, Switzerland, which is a special programme for the 16 filmmakers selected globally where 'Kalsubai' had its World Premiere.

Currently Yudhajit is developing two feature projects with Prithvijoy Ganguly one of which had been selected in NFDC Co Production market in 2020.

When not working Yudhajit travels across the country making photographs both in digital and analog formats.

Roopesh Shaji

Cinematography

After completing his Masters of Art degree in Folk Literature, in 2013 Roopesh did his Post-Graduation Diploma in Cinematography from SatyajitRay Film & Television Institute, Kolkata.

Roopesh has helmed as the Director of Photography in various feature films, short films and web series which have been screened in various film festivals.

He has collaborated in Quiro, with Yudhajit Basu & Prithvijoy Ganguly. Currently he is working in different Tamil & Hindi film and web series productions.

Sourav Burman

Post Production

Sourav is a filmmaker currently based out of New Delhi. After completing his Mass Communication from St. Xavier's College, Sourav has worked on multiple projects as a post-producer, colourist, cinematographer, producer, writer and director since 2015. He often collaborates with Yudhajit and Prithvijoy on their projects and they are currently developing their debut feature set in West Bengal.

When Sourav is not working, he likes exploring rural spaces and documents them in his image and text based practises.

Sandeep Singh

Sound Designer

Sandeep Singh is a Delhi based sound designer. He has completed post graduate diploma in sound recording and design from SatyajitRay Film & Television Institute, Kolkata.

Apart from award winning documentary projects, Sandeep has worked in 'Jonaki' and 'Quiro' which have been screened at many national & international film festival. His student diploma film has won the Best Short Film Award at 24th Kolkata International Film Festival, 2018 and IDSFFK, Kerala 2018.

He has also been a part of the prestigious “Amazing Thailand Film Challenge” organized by the Ministry of Travel and Tourism, Thailand in 2018.
